Unit Progression
UFLI
Lesson 46 /th/
Day 1:

Students completed a phonics matching activity to demonstrate their understanding of the voiced /th/ sounds. After practicing the target phonemes through UFLI lessons, students read each word and matched it with the corresponding picture, providing a quick check for decoding accuracy and sound recognition.
Students engaged in interactive activities to strengthen their understanding of the /th/ sounds. During the Roll and Read game, students rolled dice and read the matching words to build fluency and confidence. The Phonics Search allowed students to apply their learning in a fun, hands on way as they located and colored pictures representing words, reinforcing sound recognition and decoding skills.
Day 2:

UFLI
Lesson 47 /th/
Day 3:

Students revisited the UFLI passage to strengthen decoding and comprehension skills. They reread the text, highlighting words containing the /th/ sound, and illustrated a detailed picture to demonstrate understanding of the story. Differentiation was provided for emerging readers, who worked with their passage from intervention to highlight the /o/ sound and create a corresponding illustration to show comprehension at their instructional level.
To conclude the unit, students completed a phonics assessment focusing on both voiced and unvoiced /th/ sounds. Each side of the assessment required students to spell three /th/ words, sight words (ungraded), and write a complete sentence to demonstrate their understanding of sound patterns, spelling, and conventions. This summative task provided insight into each student’s progress with phonemic awareness and application of phonics skills in written form.
