Police Car Project
Project Based Learning
Brought about by a common interest between peers, students were immersed into a project based unit all about police cars. While aligning with Missouri Learning Standards, students utilized observational skills, found print in real world environments, and used their knowledge of classification to acquire a deeper expertise of police cars and take on learning in a new manner.

Prop Box
I designed an interactive police car from cardboard boxes to create an immersive play based learning experience. Students explored real world technology like computers and radios while practicing literacy and inquiry skills. Through guided questioning, they made connections between print, technology, and purpose. Students were encouraged to think critically and demonstrated meaningful engagement through purposeful play.
Problem Based Learning
Students were challenged to design and build their own police car using open ended materials. Through trial and error, they practiced problem solving, persistence, and creative thinking while applying prior knowledge about police car features and signage. I guided their learning with questioning and scaffolding, helping them connect literacy concepts and hands on design.

Police Car Scavenger Hunt
As the culminating experience of our project based unit on police cars, students engaged in an inquiry based scavenger hunt inside a real police vehicle. Guided by authentic materials and interaction with a community expert, students applied classification and observational skills to identify and record key artifacts. This lesson fostered inquiry, collaboration, and real world connection, allowing students to extend their learning beyond the classroom through meaningful, hands on exploration.
